‘Twelve Monkeys’ Getting Second Season

‘Twelve Monkeys’ Getting Second Season Debuting back on January 16th on the Syfy channel and working through the final few episodes of the season, Syfy has announced that Twelve Monkeys has gotten a second season renewal and will return in 2016. The series is one that had a lot going against it because of the love of the film from fans, but as it’s progressed it’s managed to find a decent voice for itself. The show is averaging about 1.5 million viewers while getting a huge DVR boost of an average of 104% in the live+3.

“We are absolutely committed to 12 Monkeys, and have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding critical and audience praise the series has earned,” said Syfy president Dave Howe. Added Jeff Wachtel, President and Chief Content Officer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, “12 Monkeys is a show that has exceeded expectations at every stage. It’s had a great first season creatively, and is building a dedicated audience.”

12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford (Nikita, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2), Amanda Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars), Noah Bean (Nikita, Damages) and Kirk Acevedo.

Plot concept: The series follows the journey of a time traveler (Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.

‘Daredevil’ Second Season Finds Its Elektra

‘Daredevil’ Second Season Finds Its Elektra The first season of Daredevil won over a lot of fans to the character and the potential of what can be done on the small screen with a good number of Marvel’s characters. The second season is in production now and it already got a significant boost with the recent casting of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Now another piece of the puzzle has been put into place with the casting of Elodie Yung as Elektra. Yung’s been in a few films, including GI Joe Retaliation and is in the upcoming Gods of Egypt film.

“After a worldwide search, we found in Élodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb said in Marvel’s announcement. ““Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

The character description reads with, “Yung will play Elektra, a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”

The character was created back in the 1981 issue of the original series #168 by Frank Miller. The character went on to become an integral piece of the overall Daredevil lore and has been brought to screen previously by Jennifer Garner.

The show stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson, Jon Bernthal and Elodie Yung.

Plot concept: Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

‘Star Wars Rebels’ Gets Seven Minute Disney XD Preview

‘Star Wars Rebels’ Gets Seven Minute Disney XD Preview The Star Wars Rebels series had a pretty decent showing at the San Diego Comic-Con in July but the big deal with it is likely to come in the next months with Disney’s own upfronts and promotional campaigns. But sometimes the best thing you can do is to just show some of the final product itself, which is what happened on Disney XD last night as a seven minute preview landed for the show. We get a decent introduction to some of the characters, a look at how the galaxy is changing under Imperial rule and hints of things to come while providing some nice touches on elements we’re familiar with.

The show is set to have a one-hour preview this fall before going into the full series itself on Disney XD. With the series exploring the time between the third and fourth installments and taking a lot of cues from the McQuarrie artwork, it’s settling in well to its design and has a lot of potential.

The series stars Freddie Prinze, Jr., Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar and Vanessa Marshall.

Plot concept: Set between the events of Episode III and IV — an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

‘Powers’ TV Adaptation Reveals First NYCC Trailer

‘Powers’ TV Adaptation Reveals First NYCC Trailer With it just a couple of months away from its debut on the PlayStation Network, the New York Comic Con was the ideal place to reveal the first teaser trailer for the upcoming exclusive series Powers, based on the comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. The trailer is light on the actual powers side itself, focusing more on the internal narrative of its lead character played by Sharlto Copley (District 9, Elysium, Chappie) with his struggle in dealing with not having his own powers and being a cop in a world full of powered people that have certain issues with him.

The series has Charlie Huston set as the show runner while executive producers will include Remi Aubuchon and David Alpert. The series is set to debut on the network in December 2014 on the PlayStation Network with it being free to those with a PlayStation Plus membership. It stars Sharlto Copley as Christian Walker, Susan Heyward as Deena Pilgrim, Michelle Forbes as Retro Girl, Max Fowler as Krispin Stockley, Adam Godley as Captain Cross, Eddie Izzard as “Big Bad” Wolfe, Noah Taylor as Johnny Royalle, Olesya Rulin as Calista and Logan Browning as Zora.

Plot concept: Powers is set in a world where superpowers are relatively common but not mundane. It follows the lives of two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, police officers in a Homicide department devoted to cases that involve “powers” (people with superpowers). Walker himself used to be a costumed superhero named Diamond, but became a police officer after he lost his abilities. Though stripped of his powers, he still retains his contacts within the superhero community, even becoming engaged to an ex-colleague, who is later killed. In later issues, Walker is offered the chance to become the world’s latest secret Guardian as part of The Millennium Guard, a secret group of intergalactic guardians, accepting the responsibility and the powers that come with it.

Deena Pilgrim, his partner, is also hiding at least one troubling secret. She contracted superpowers during a fight with an underworld thug named the Bug, an event which she kept under wraps. As a result of this, she unintentionally kills her abusive boyfriend in self-defense, and hides the evidence, although coming under investigation by Internal Affairs. However after a series of events involving Retro Girl going undercover, Triphammer cures Deena and she is no longer under the scrutiny of I.A.

‘Penny Dreadful’ Second Season Trailer Debuts

‘Penny Dreadful’ Second Season Trailer Debuts After a first season that went over very well and was tightly structured with its creative side, Penny Dreadful is coming back for its second season and a new full length trailer for it has arrived. The new season is set to land on April 26th, 2015 at 10pm for fans.

The series stars  Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton and Eva Green.

“There’s a great antagonist next year played by Helen McCrory… Season 1’s antagonist was sort of an inhuman character. It’ll be good to have a more human antagonist,” said Showtime president David Nevin late last year.

Plot concept: An erotically-charged, profoundly unsettling new saga, PENNY DREADFUL completely reinvents literature’s most iconic and terrifying characters. Dorian Gray, Victor Frankenstein and timeless figures from Dracula join a core of original characters in a dark and brutal quest to save a soul — even as they grapple with their own monstrous temptations.

The one hour premiere will be called Star Wars Rebels: Spark Of Rebellion. The series will air in 34 languages across 163 countries in over 400 million households.

‘Powers’ Debuts New Trailer, Streams First Episode

‘Powers’ Debuts New Trailer, Streams First Episode Sony has gotten the Powers series kicking off today on its service, with the first episode free for all, and they’ve also brought out a new trailer for it as well. The new trailer is one that should have been released back at NYCC last year as that trailer was fairly underwhelming in a lot of ways for fans whereas this one, providing a look at the season overall, definitely feels like it shapes up a lot better.

The series has Charlie Huston set as the show runner while executive producers will include Remi Aubuchon and David Alpert. The series is set to debut on the network in December 2014 on the PlayStation Network with it being free to those with a PlayStation Plus membership.
