Anime Snapshots Roundup For Week Of February 6th, 2015

The milestone this week: there are now more shows on the droplist than shows I’m still watching. Which in one way is a bad thing, as I’ve only got half the material to work with each week than I had a few weeks ago. On the other hand, after this week there’ll be no more World Absolute Fafnir Break. Which means I should really start with them and get them out of the way. Absolute Duo first:

In which case I worry for your soul. Find something else to live there, like fluffy bunnies. Much better.

What pushed me over the edge with this show: her attitude. And so she won’t need to tell me anything again, because ::plonk:: A fate shared with Infinite Fafnir

As long as he’s not wearing a magical, self-pleasuring chastity belt, he’s probably okay.

Aaaand I’m done. I never did quite understand where the fanservice fit into this show – it’s not enough to be in the class of, say, High School DxD, but it’s too much for the type of show that it seems to think it is. Next, Assassination Classroom

See, if they’re going to hire pro assassins, can we just go straight to the Golgo crossover? That would certainly be better than…

…whose nickname is actually well earned. She seems to be lined up to be a regular character, which frankly disappoints me. Even if certain aspects of her, uummm, ‘interactions’ with Koro-sensei had their moments…

Those flexible appendages sure do come in handy. Moving on we have Death Parade, which usually doesn’t give me many opportunities to revel in fun moments, but this week wheeled out Nona to teach her staff a few lessons. Like this:

Age approaching 4 digits, appearance around 15, and can still kick your arse, human or non-human. She’s the best thing about this episode, right next to the insight it gives into to The Daily Lives of Arbiters. Although:

..while they play Planetary Pool, no-one can quite match Red Dwarf in that department. Meanwhile…

Screw the IAU definition of ‘planet’, YOU’VE MISSED ONE. Over in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure this week, being Anubis is suffering…

Give how this show tends to treat its female characters, genuinely surprised that he’s talking about an actual cow here. And the way this episode switches between life-or-death and slapstick is pure joy. Next up, the one franchise I, er, ‘fly to Japan’ for each week, and the opening ep of Go! Princess Precure:

Is there a Precure series that doesn’t start with headbutting a fairy? Because I can’t remember any.

“I am Zetsuborg of Precure. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.” Going by the trailers for this series, I’d been worried that the show was suddenly going from it’s generally-real-world setting to a Yucie-style “school for princesses” schtick, but fortunately not – it’s just a school for posh gits, with the lead Precure having daydreams of being a princess. That works for me. It’ll have a hard job on its hands beating Happinesscharge, though. Next, The Rolling Girls

As you do. 0_o One of the more pleasant surprises of the season has been Saekano – in that I expected it to be utter pandering crap, and it hasn’t been.

Me, mid-afternoon at work. At least, I wish it was.

And a fang. And her ability to use her twintails as an offensive weapon How many more buttons can she press!?

I wish we’d been able to see this blatant attempt at extortion followed through to the end…

Dude, she’s stayed over at your house. Going to the shops is really comparatively minor. Also has to be said that, for all that she allegedly “lacks presence”, Kato sure doesn’t miss many chances for cutting putdowns. I like her. Moving on to Shirobako:

Tarou speaking, natch. I’d like to say “thank feck for that”, but new boy with glasses is clearly trying to one-up him for sheer uselessness. Meanwhile…

…this show is coming up with so many opportunities for spin-off shows its hard to know which one they should fund first. Jiggly Jiggly Heaven? Exodus? Gothiloli Koshien Baseball!? And that’s not even them the possibilites. If PA Works don’t make at least one of them, I’m going to be very disappointed. (Said in a Zorg/Fifth Element voice.)

Those aerodynamics, though. He’d never fly. Finally, Yuri Kuma Arashi:

A yuri friend, perhaps? The Photo Frame of Blatant Foreshadowing even tells us so!

Those aprons. They can cook for me anytime.

Subtle. Not remotely. Anyway, that’s it for this week. See you next…
