Sentai Filmworks Sets January 2016 Anime DVD/BD Release Slate

Sentai Filmworks Sets January 2016 Anime DVD/BD Release Slate Sentai Filmworks has set a pretty good looking January 2016 release slate for DVD and Blu-ray with a little of this and a little of that. First, the company has surprised us with the news that their very recent pickup of Hanayamata has resulted in the show getting an English language dub. Since it’s a girls being girls kind of series, it’s one that usually gets passed over for this and could be a sign that they’re testing the viability of such releases getting dubs again. No surprise that Re: Hamatora is getting a dub nor that the Tamako Market Blu-ray release is getting one as the previous edition from September 2014 on DVD only had it.

An older ADV Films title that got transferred when the company shut down has resurfaced with Pet Shop of Horrors getting a DVD release. No surprise that there’s no Blu-ray here. The other new releases are all DVD and BD releases with Japanese language only, including new titles with Dai Shogun, Locodol and Momokyun Sword. The back half of Argevollen is also Japanese only, mirroring the first.

SYNOPSIS: In a world where history took a different path, Japan has been isolated from the outside world by steam-powered robots that repel all invaders. Inside Japan, however, the people are divided into feuding and fighting feudal factions. Feisty Keiichiro Tokugawa dreams of changing this and unifying Japan, and he just may be the one man who can use the legendary giant robot Susanoo. Unfortunately, just touching a woman makes him break out in hives, and the Susanoo ALSO requires a female copilot. In VERY close quarters. And just to twist the katana, while there seem to be plenty of women who might covet the copilot’s seat, not all of them have his best interests at heart! Who can he trust? Kiriko the Ninja? Chiharu the fox-demon? Or will Keiichiro’s rash ambitions be thwarted by rashes and a totally rational phobia of the female form? It’s a giant robot show like no other as the birds, the bees, and the giant robots take flight in DAI SHOGUN!

At least, that’s what Detective Orcott of the LAPD suspects, as nightmarish things have happened to many of the shop’s customers. And yet, evidence directly implicating the Count always comes up lacking. But then, who would know how to play the game of cat-and-mouse better than the master of the PET SHOP OF HORRORS?

That means performing at the openings of swimming pools and appearing on the smaller local TV stations, so it’s not the glamorous lifestyle one sees in the movies. But it is a way to help her city and neighbors while doing something she cares about. And when Nanako and Yukari are joined by a third classmate, the petite but athletic Yui, who takes on the task of appearing in costume as the town mascot, everything really comes together.
